Yong

Three months ago, Yong lost everything – including her house and all of her possessions – in a fire. To make matters worse, she did not receive the insurance money she needed to survive. She ended up homeless.
Yong’s recollection of her first night homeless in Greensboro, North Carolina broke my heart. She was terrified. Today, Yong holds on the hope that she can soon move out of the woods and return to her life as it was before the fire.
While in Greensboro, I met Michele Forrest and her friend Audrie. They are part of a group that cares for the homeless in their community. They bring food, provide case management, and serve as a liaison to other homeless services in the area, such as the police.
Never forget that one person can make a huge difference in their community. Michele has, so can you.

Hey – I randomly came across your site (I clicked on a link that was posted as a comment on one of David Brooks’ recent articles for the NY Times) and the videos of the people in Greensboro, NC came up. I have been in Chicago for the past 4 years and recently moved back to Greensboro (my hometown) – I knew that there were homeless people in G’boro but these videos really drove it home. Can you give me some guidance about how to get involved caring for the homeless here? What organization do you recommend? Any info you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated!

Mark- i saw your article on cnn and am deeply inspired. on ur site, i saw this clip on Yong, who i'd like to help. is there any way I can get in contact with her, perhaps where she's located so I can meet up with her to find out more about her story and see if I can help.

I hope she is OK. What a powerful story. She seems so sad, but also full of hope. I know this was videotaped a while back (summer of 2009?) and I pray she has a safe place by now.
So many people in the world are really an accident away from this happening. Yong has dignity, and it is apparent in the way she keeps her temporary camp/home. Her story tugs at my heart and I don't think I can forget this for a while.
