Tory and family

Tory is one amazing mother. Fighting homelessness is bad enough, yet her 11 year-old son has brain cancer. I cannot imagine the strength it takes just to get through a day.

I met Tory and her 3 kids living in a hotel room in Phoenix, Arizona. 6 people actually now live in this hotel room. They only thought they were going to be there for 2 weeks, and that was months ago.

The hotel cycle for homeless families is often never-ending. Tory’s husband often walks 4 miles every day to get to work, but he does not make enough money for them to save up for first and last months rent to get back into an apartment or house.

Tory says she is having a hard time finding support services. Either the service provider is out of funds or they are just placed on a waiting list. Tory is trying to stay in the same area so her kids can stay in the same school. There is some good news, I was with a school liaison who will start helping Troy’s family the best to their ability.

Tory’s son received an award for student of the month in September. That’s amazing. Please watch to the end to hear his 3 wishes.

Wow! I was waiting to hear this family’s story. Amazingly beautiful family. I don’t know how anyone can pull themselves back up. It’s so hard. If anyone can, this woman can. I don’t know how she stays so strong. I’d be laying on the floor crying. I know what if feels like to walk 3 miles to work & back when i couldn’t drive. It took me an hour, walking as fast as I could. It wasn’t fun, although you do get used to it and take pride in doing what you have to. I empathize with the husband and admire his courage, too. Their children are loved and clearly well-cared for. They have a lot to be proud of.

I wish there was a program online like Kiva, where people could donate money and even lend money to families like this in need in developed countries – not only developing countries like India. I would happily give $50 a month to a family like this for 6 months if I knew how they were doing and could get regular updates. I know there are families in Australia who are suffering as well.

Can I send a small donation to Tory?

I’ve watched about 20 of the videos so far. SO many incredible stories that are both touching, sad and make you want to take action. However, this one hit me hard. This woman is incredible and has the right vision for her future and for her kids. I’d love to know how to send a donation to Tory if possible.
