@home: Youth Homelessness in Chicago

P1030508 More than 1.35 million children are expected to experience homelessness in the United States in a given year, representing 39% of America’s homeless population.

In the 2012-2013 school year, Chicago Public Schools identified a record 18,669 homeless students, including 2,512 living unaccompanied without a parent or guardian.

This video features interviews with homeless youth from Chicago’s Night Ministry and La Casa Norte, two nonprofit organizations that are leading the charge to provide stable housing and comprehensive services to Chicago’s most at risk. The face of homelessness is changing, and Mark Horvath, founder of Invisible People and subject of The Kindling Group’s @home documentary, continues to make the invisible visible.
