Edward

Edward lives under a freeway overpass in New Orleans. A train cut off his arm when he was eleven. Edward has been off and on the streets ever since.

Edward tells me he can collect disability, but he lost his ID so he hasn’t had a check for three months. He survives by “flying a sign” on the exit ramp.

In his own words, Edward says he’s “messed up”! He has HIV and hepatitis A, B and C. Edward say he has been to every hospital in New Orleans at least 6 times. After each hospital stay, Edward is discharged right back to homelessness – where his health gets worse, and eventually, he goes back into the hospital. Who do you think pays for all the emergency services and hospital costs?

Edward’s three wishes: live a long life, have a little money, and to be able to eat every day!

We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Until then, we strive to be the most trusted source for homelessness.
