I met Tommy at Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. Tommy ended up in the hospital for pneumonia as a result of him sleeping outside. Sometimes he tries to get a few hours inside at train stations. He doesn’t like to go to shelters.

“Are you homeless because you are drinking or are you drinking because you are homelessness?”, Tommy says it’s a little of both. Tommy is aware that he has a substance abuse problem, but it’s extremely hard to stop drinking while on the streets.
