Like many people released from prison, Barry found himself with no resources to get back into society and end up homeless. Barry decided to relocate to Washington DC to advocate for prison reform.

Upon leaving the criminal justice system, formerly incarcerated men and women have few options to keep them out of the cold. Those without family to take them in must often wait months if not years in the shelter or three-quarter house system before they secure stable, affordable housing.

If you’ve visited the White House anytime in the last several decades, you’ve seen a tent with protest signs at Lafayette Square directly across from the White House. The White House Peace Vigil is an anti-nuclear weapons peace vigil believed it to be the longest-running uninterrupted anti-war protest in U.S. history.
