Mervin

Mervin is sleeping rough on the streets of London. He says he has been homeless ever since he was 15 years old and lost his family to cancer.

Mervin says because he has no local connection he is not eligible for services to help him get off the streets. Probably because of an ever-increasing lack of funds in social services, more communities are trying to restrict access to services to people who have a local connection. That’s not just here in the U.K. but all over America too.

I somewhat understand the reasons but just by the nature of homelessness laws or policies that limit people experiencing homelessness to being able to get help are just not practical.

Mervin wants to work. He is a trained baker and has worked landscaping before. He says it’s nearly impossible to find employment. Added to that he is sleeping rough, finding a job is even harder.
